Pratchett
7-year-old MN Smoke Tabby Shorthair
Veterinarian: Dr. Amy Bertelli & Dr. Kate Margalit
HISTORY –
Pratchett is an adventurous indoor/outdoor cat known for his strong opinions, independent spirit, and dislike of veterinary visits. Three weeks prior to starting his Spryng journey, he returned home favoring his right hind limb and showing signs of discomfort in his pelvis. His owners became concerned when he was no longer able to jump onto the bed or couch, activities that had always been part of his daily routine.
Pratchett had a history of bilateral stifle arthritis and left hip pain. During his examination, veterinarians identified significant instability in his right stifle, along with discomfort associated with arthritis in multiple joints. Further evaluation revealed a right cranial cruciate ligament rupture, a torn right meniscus, a previous left cruciate ligament injury, and severe arthritis affecting his hips.
Because Pratchett is extremely difficult to medicate and does not tolerate frequent veterinary visits well, his medical team developed a treatment plan focused on long-lasting joint support while minimizing the need for ongoing medications and handling.
DIAGNOSIS –
Right Cranial Cruciate Ligament Rupture
Right Meniscal Tear
Bilateral Stifle Arthritis
Hip Osteoarthritis
TREATMENTS -
Pratchett underwent surgical repair of his right cranial cruciate ligament and meniscus.
To address arthritis and support joint comfort, he also received Spryng® with OsteoCushion® Technology injections in his left hip and left stifle.
OUTCOME -
Just three weeks after surgery and treatment, Pratchett showed remarkable improvement in his mobility and overall comfort.
His flexibility improved significantly, particularly in his arthritic hips, and both hind limbs progressed well throughout recovery. He became more comfortable moving around the house and demonstrated a noticeable reduction in pain.
While Pratchett remained less than enthusiastic about his prescribed crate rest and rehabilitation program, his veterinary team and owners were encouraged by his rapid progress and improved quality of life.
