Ducky

10-year old MN Labrador Retriever

Veterinarian: Cherie Igielski, DVM

HISTORY –

Ducky is a 10-year-old Labrador Retriever who has been dealing with abnormal tarsal joints since a young age. After an unknown trauma at less than 12 weeks old, he experienced limping and swelling in his right tarsal joint. Following multiple veterinary consultations, steroid treatments, and joint taps, Ducky was diagnosed with Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD) around 1-1.5 years old. Over the years, he seemed to overcompensate with his left side. This led to difficulty enjoying his favorite activities like Dock Diving.

For the last seven months, Ducky has been receiving rehabilitation therapy to improve his movement and overall wellness. Despite this, his distance jumping had significantly decreased, and he appeared uncomfortable during his jumps.

DIAGNOSIS –

  • Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD) of the right tarsal joint.

TREATMENTS –

  • Ducky received injections of Spryng™ with OsteoCushion™ Technology in his tarsal joints.

OUTCOME –

  • Just a couple of days post-injection, Ducky exhibited increased movement and began to engage in more “frog” stretches, something he previously limited.

  • Within two months, he was able to stop taking oral NSAIDs entirely. His overall comfort has improved, allowing him to return to activities he loves, including Dock Diving.
