Red

26-year-old Quarter Horse Gelding

Veterinarian: Bill Anderson, DVM

HISTORY –

Red, a 26-year-old gelding, was diagnosed with ring bone and bone-on-bone arthritis in his left pastern joint September 20, 2024. He exhibited significant lameness (grade 4/5), characterized by a bobbing head and a labored walk. Initial treatments included an Arthramid injection and multiple sessions of shock wave lithotripsy on November 5, 13, and 27, all of which resulted in minimal to no improvement. Red’s condition remained painful and significantly impacted his mobility, prompting the need for a different approach.

DIAGNOSIS –

  • Severe ringbone and bone-on-bone arthritis of the left pastern joint.

TREATMENTS –

On December 5, 2024, Red received an injection of Spryng® with OsteoCushion™ Technology. Following the injection, his progress was closely monitored:

  • Day 1 (Evening): Red was observed trotting to greet his owner, an immediate improvement from his previously labored walk.

  • Day 3: Red’s mobility further improved, he was cantering in for dinner, a remarkable transformation in his movement and energy levels.

OUTCOME –

  • After receiving the Spryng® injection, Red’s condition improved dramatically.

  • His mobility returned to 100 percent, transitioning from a labored walk to trotting and cantering within days.

  • This treatment marked a significant turning point, allowing Red to regain comfort and vitality despite his advanced age and prior diagnosis.
